Some days electronic, other times jazz rock artist— the multi-talented Shiina Ringo has release previews of her upcoming single “Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri / Kamisama, Hotokesama” (長く短い祭 / 神様、仏様) on her official YouTube channel.
Unlike her usual jazz themed tracks with Tokyo Jihen, her solo project work is proving to be quite diverse and experimental, even within this one CD.
As usual, the music videos are well shot and costumes are well chosen, especially for those who love to see the traditional Kimono featured in “Kamisama, Hotokesama”. This particular video is themed around ancient Japanese folk tale, includes two basket helmeted fellows looking to fight Shiina using flutes and scriptures. I’d say the slight slapstick comedy is quite refreshing.
“Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri” (神様、仏様) surprised me with it’s duet of auto-tune featuring Ukigumo (ex-Tokyo Jihen). It’s most likely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m already picking up the groove with it’s catchy tunes.
This single will include two tracks, to be released on the 5th August 2015 in physical form, but it’s already available digitally in Japan.
